DEAD CAN DANCE - Live in Concert!
Presented by Dancing Ferret Concerts

DEAD CAN DANCE will be bringing their World Tour to 12 select US cities during August and September of 2012, and Philadelphia is extremely proud to be one of them.

Their Philadelphia performance will take place on Sunday, August 26th in Verizon Hall at The Kimmel Center for Performing Arts, a $235 million classical music concert hall. It is a thoroughly modern facility; one of the few of its kind built in America this century. Learn a little bit about the acoustics of Verizon Hall at this link:

These will be the first Dead Can Dance live shows since their hugely successful sold out tour in 2005, and Dead can Dance will visit 4 continents over an 8 month period in 2012 and 2013.

Dead Can Dance will be releasing a new Studio Album to accompany the World Tour, which will be their first since ‘Spiritchaser’ in 1996.

"Myself and Lisa are genuinely excited to be working together again in the studio. Writing began for the new album in the Autumn of 2011 and the final recording sessions will take place at Quivvy Studios in Ireland in the early part of this year.

It will be a spring album to coincide with both natures reawakening and the groups subsequent rebirth. Our tour plans are also well under way and we have assembled a fine group of performers for the live concerts who have kindly put their own careers on hold in order to perform the music from our new album as well as some new arrangements from the archives"
- Brendan Perry

Tickets go on sale to the general public at 10am on Saturday, March 31st. Follow this link for ticketing information:

Dracula's Ball 02/04/12 with THE DROWNING SEASON, CRYO-MANCER & ANNE RICE giveaways!

Free tickets to Dracula's Ball / Chance to meet Anne Rice!

We're very pleased to begin the new year by announcing two fantastic promotions for the February 4th Dracula's Ball that we think you will be very excited about.

The first is that we have a decent (but limited) supply of *free* tickets for the upcoming Dracula's Ball event. To get one, all you have to do is pre-order a copy of Anne Rice's new book, The Wolf Gift, from IsoTank. Your name will be placed on a special Wolf Gift VIP list, and you'll receive FREE admission to the Ball! Be sure to take advantage of this special offer while it lasts. When IsoTank runs out of books, they'll be out of free tickets. Here's the link to pre-order the book:

Feel free to pass that information on to other friends of your who are Anne Rice fans. It'll be the perfect chance for you to get them out to Dracula's Ball!

As if that wasn't wonderful enough, Anne and her publisher have graciously offered us five door prizes to give away in a special midnight drawing. Each of the five winners will receive a copy of The Wolf Gift, which Anne will autograph for them IN PERSON when she is in Philadelphia a few weeks later. Don't miss this exciting opportunity to win a chance to meet Anne Rice in person!

The next Dracula's Ball event takes place on Saturday, February 4th, 2012. Doors open at 9pm and our event ends at 2am. Tickets are $16 and are on sale now through Ticketmaster (online and in person), Digital Ferret (in person) and IsoTank (online, free shipping for 5 or more tickets). We'll keep our website and Facebook page updated with ticket information. Here's the link to order tickets from IsoTank:

When we met Anne Rice last month to discuss upcoming projects (and to thank her for sending us the wonderful dress we displayed at the last Dracula's Ball), she was very excited to tell us about her upcoming book, The Wolf Gift. A brand new venture into the realm of dark fiction, The Wolf Gift is a modern and passionate exploration of the world of werewolves.

Pre-order this book from IsoTank and receive a free ticket to the upcoming Dracula's Ball event in Philadelphia on February 4th, 2012. Your name will be on a special "Wolf Gift" VIP list at the venue and you'll receive FREE admission to the Ball!

At Dracula's Ball, there will be a drawing for door prizes at midnight. Five winners will receive a free copy of The Wolf Gift, which will be autographed to the winner by Anne Rice in person. The autograph will be signed in Philadelphia in mid-February.

***Artists Appearing at Dracula's Ball, February 4th, 2012***

As usual, we'll have 3 DJs spinning in 3 separate rooms, so you'll always be able to find a solid groove you can dance to. DJ Spider returns from North Carolina, DJ Miko LeStrange represents DC, and DJ Zircon comes from nearby New Jersey. Now let's meet our live bands:

CRYO-MANCER: Cryomancer is the product of the talents of frontman/guitarist Kryss Oroborus and bassist/vocalist Sparks. Completely restructured and relocated in 2009 the band has changed their sound drastically from electro to a unique hard edged, guitar driven industrial metal/coldwave style.
STAGE TIME - 10:35pm

THE DROWNING SEASON: Putting the rock back in goth-rock, this Baltimore band has been laying down sonic napalm on the dancefloor for nearly twelve years. Major influences include The Sisters of Mercy, The Mission (UK) and Fields of the Nephilim. This is their second appearance at Dracula's Ball.
STAGE TIME - 12:05am

This Ball takes place in our favorite location, Shampoo Nightclub, at 7th & Willow Streets in Philadelphia, PA (Mapquest and Google Maps info can be found on our website). As always, the Ball is open to all ages, but you must be 21+ with proper photo ID to drink. Shampoo has an on-site free parking lot but it fills up very quickly for the Ball. Check our map of available nearby parking on Facebook if you're arriving late. Personal photo cameras are welcome. Large professional camera rigs with unpleasant flash bulbs are not. Video cameras are not allowed.

This is our first Ball of 2012 and we're very excited to be offering you free tickets and personal autographs, courtesy of Anne Rice and her publisher. Join us on February 4th and you may win a chance to meet the Queen of Vampires herself!

Best wishes,

[Patrick] & Dracula's Ball Staff

Dracula's Ball October 31st, 2011 with The Last Dance, Psyche Corporation, DJ Addam Bombb, MORE!

The next Dracula's Ball event takes place on Monday, October 31st, 2011 and includes live performances by The Last Dance (*exclusive East Coast show*) and Psyche Corporation as well as DJs Addam Bombb and other guests. 3 dancefloors of non-stop music!

Tickets are $16 in advance. All ages are welcome. If you want to drink alcohol, you must be 21+ w/photo ID. Admission at the door will be $18. Tickets are on sale now.

Advance tickets can be purchased *in person* from Ticketmaster or Digital Ferret, or *online* from Ticketmaster or IsoTank. Those with advance tickets are admitted first, before those paying at the door.

Dracula's Ball takes place at Shampoo Nightclub in Philadelphia, on Willow Street between 7th and 8th Streets. The club has a large enclosed parking lot which is free, but it does fill up early during Ball events. Doors open at 9pm and the event ends at 2am. In addition to live bands and DJs, there are vendors, candy and door prizes. The official DB website can be found at: http://www.draculasball.com/

PSYCHE CORPORATION: Psyche Corporation is an alloy. One part darkwave fairytale, one part cyberpunk celebration of all things godly and machine. Cellos and guitars provide an angelic element while the keyboards and sensual, edgy vocals suggest something...a bit more earthly (or earthy, if you prefer). Besides a bewitching live show, Psyche Corporation has an entire world of their own - check their website.

THE LAST DANCE: **EXCLUSIVE EAST COAST SHOW!** It's been several years since we've hosted this outstanding California band at Dracula's Ball and we thought that Halloween would be the perfect time to fly them here for an exclusive show. Passionate and melodic male vocals, dark danceable synth sounds and goth-rock rhythm and guitars give The Last Dance an intoxicating sound that still rocks your socks off.

Nov. 21st: Azam Ali w/ Raquy and the Cavemen
Do not miss this rare opportunity to see a live performance by one of world music's leading voices. Internationally acclaimed vocalist Azam Ali (singer for Niyaz and Vas as well as guest vocalist for Conjure One, System of A Down, The Crystal Method, Chris Vrenna, Mickey Hart and many others) brings her timeless, ethereal voice to the stage on November 21st in Philadelphia.

Born in Iran, raised in India, Azam moved to America as a teenager. Her son, Iman, was born in 2008. As Azam began to sing traditional Persian lullabies to her newborn, she reflected on the millions of children around the world who are born into exile. And so she began gathering songs that expressed a mother's closeness, and a motherland's distance. The result was her latest solo album, "From Night to The Edge of Day."

The lullabies come from a variety of backgrounds: Persian, Turkish, Kurdish, Arab, Azeri and others. The music likewise is influenced by all of these traditions. The album showcases Azam's emotional range, with vocals transitioning seamlessly from warmth and comfort to a deep yearning for home.

Azam performs at the Ibrahim Theater, located in the International House (3701 Chestnut St., Philadelphia). This intimate theatre setting offers comfortable seating, clear sight lines and excellent acoustics.

Opening the show will be Raquy and the Cavemen, a duo of virtuoso drummers / multi-instrumentalists who bring some rock energy to traditional Middle Eastern rhythms. Switching between between energetic drumming compositions and intoxicating melodic pieces, the duo employs a variety of unusual instruments including the Kemenche (an ancestor of the violin), Dumset (Middle Eastern drumset), Dumbek and 11 String Guitar. They also utilize the unique art of Mongolian Throat singing. They have performed at Central Park SummerStage and LollaPalooza and have collaborated with Omar Faruk Tekbilek, Saiid El-Artist and many others.

Doors open at 7pm for this event. Tickets go on sale September 16th and are priced at $23 (reserved seating), $29 (premium seating in Rows 4 & 5) and $55 (VIP Package - seat in first three rows, poster, exclusive T-shirt and autographed CD).

The Colber Report @ Dracula's Ball 4/23
As mentioned in a previous note, The Colbert Report has asked for permission to film at the upcoming Dracula's Ball. After carefully considering all of the comments posted on our previous note, we have decided to grant the show permission to film in a limited capacity at the event. Since a few of you expressed concerns, we wanted to take this opportunity to explain exactly what is going to be happening.

The film crew will be looking for volunteers who would like to be interviewed between 8pm and 10pm. Since our doors do not open until 9pm, the first hour of interviews will be conducted with volunteers who are waiting in line. From 9pm-10pm, the crew plans to find volunteers inside at the event. If you do not want to participate, you are under no obligation to do so. Only people who want to participate will be interviewed. If you do choose to be interviewed, bear in mind that this is not a serious documentary, it is a comedy sketch. In order to elicit funny answers from you, you will almost certainly be presented with a few silly questions ("What time is the virgin sacrifice?") that come out of left field. You can give answers that are serious, humorous, or you can choose not to answer at all. Whatever you do, have a good time with it and enjoy it.

The crew will also be taking some crowd shots of the dancefloors and other common areas of the club. This process should not last long and there is only one camera involved.

We have been very fortunate to work with a number of excellent documentary productions in the past, but we are well aware that the media is not always kind to subcultures. When we were initially approached by The Colbert Report, we declined their request to film because we were concerned that their segment might make jokes about our event, our patrons, or our scene, all of which are dearly important to us. After several conversations and a meeting with the show's producers, we accepted their assurance that the segment wanted to joke with us and not about us. Your feedback was overwhelmingly positive and many of you expressed the sentiment that it was important to show that we have a good sense of humor and can laugh about ourselves.

Of course, we never know how any film segment is really going to turn out until we see it on TV. There is always the risk that the final product will not turn out quite as planned. Our hope and belief is that we will wind up with a story that shows a human and humorous side to our subculture. We anticipate that it will be funny, and we'll be happy to be in on the joke.

In conclusion, we would again like to point out that there is no obligation to participate in this filming. We have an amazing lineup for you and there will be plenty for you to do. Feel free to forget about the film and enjoy the show.
